About this funny little blog...

Jess and Louie.jpg

So much has changed since I started this blog.

What began as a space to house the recipes for the wholesome, vegan meals I was creating and feeding to my friends in Berlin circa 2014, evolved into a space where I also share travel stories and tidbits about mum life. Then it evolved again, or rather, kinda just went stagnant. Despite my best intentions and the trillions of ideas, thoughts and recipes I have to share, my poor ol' blog now goes through stretches of being neglected for months on end. It has served me so very well though, so I have given it a facelift and changed the way I do things, in hope that this will enable me to share a little bit more, a little more often.

Some history.

When I started this blog in 2014, I was living in Berlin with no real commitments other than my dear husband Andy and my part time job in a cheap and easy city. I would spend my days-off cooking and photographing my food, and late nights getting stoned, drawing cutesy headers for my recipes and trying to put what I was doing in the kitchen into some kind of intelligible format. Unless, of course, I was hosting boozy dinner parties or hanging out in smoke filled Berlin bars until the wee hours of the morning. Wholesome indeed!

There were a few intentions driving my blog. Once I started experimenting with vegan cooking I became so passionate about how easy it was to make delicious meals with no animal products and no processed crap that I had an urge to share my creations with the world. A blog seemed the best way to do this, whilst being an immensely fun creative outlet as I began experimenting with the world of food photography. But there was another intention there - or a hope, rather - that if I started a blog I might someday, somehow be able to realise my childhood dream of writing a cookbook a la Mollie Katzen of the Enchanted Broccoli Forest and Moosewood Cookbooks. I grew up cooking from those books and thinking Mollie was the coolest, cleverest person ever.

The book happened.

Far more quickly than I could have ever imagined and if I’m honest, well before I was ready. People often ask me how it happened, and the story is pretty cool so I shared the short version over here. Despite not having a flipping clue what I was doing, Vegan Goodness was so well received that a follow up book, Vegan Goodness: Feasts is set for release in September 2018.

What now?

At the end of 2017, after a half decade living in what almost felt like a video game, my little family left Berlin and returned to Melbourne, which is where Andy is from and where we met at the end of 2009. Not long after we arrived here, I stopped breastfeeding Louie and not long after that, I fell pregnant again. In a way, I still feel like I'm finding my feet, but I do hope that with the restructuring of my humble blog I'll be able to share some more content before our next bebe arrives in October 2018.

For those of you who have been with me from the beginning, I thank you for your patience with me and my very flakey internet ways. For those of you who are new here – hello, and welcome.

All of my love,
Jess xxx

I had a little glitch take place when I was transferring my site from Wordpress to Squarespace and have lost years worth of recipes in the process. OOPS! If you have come here in search of an old favourite recipe and you can't find it, send me an email and I'll see if I can help.
