“The redwoods, once seen, leave a mark or create a vision that stays with you always. No one has ever successfully painted or photographed a redwood tree. The feeling they produce is not transferable. From them comes silence and awe. It's not only their unbelievable stature, nor the color which seems to shift and vary under your eyes, no, they are not like any trees we know, they are ambassadors from another time.” - John Steinbeck

The Emerald Lakes on the top of Tongariro. If you look really closely you can see the little people on the left hand side of this lake, which should give you an idea of its size.

I had to take my camera into the water to get this shot. One of the nicest swims I've ever had in my life.
Mt Ruapehu from afar.
The long and winding road of hell.
One of New Zealands most photographed houses, not far from where I grew up on State Highway 2.

Home. Or at least it was for the first 21 years of my life. When Germans ask me where I’m from and I say I’m from New Zealand, their response is always one of disbelief. Why would I choose to live here when I could live there?? But when you grow up in New Zealand you don’t appreciate its beauty. To me it was boring, remote and backwards. It wasn’t until I returned and saw it through the eyes of a tourist for the first time, that I truly began to understand why so many people equate New Zealand with paradise. Like every country it has socio-economic problems that are seemingly invisible to an outsider, but it’s clean, the people are friendly and god damn it, New Zealand is beautiful.
These are a few snaps from a trip to New Zealand with Andy at the beginning of 2015, right before I fell pregnant. We borrowed my dads friends van which had a mattress in the back and went on a mini road trip to show him some of the tiny North Island where I grew up. All photos were shot on 35mm.
