  • 1 small carrot, grated
  • 1/4 cup green peas
  • 1 green chili, finely chopped (optional, adjust to taste)
  • 1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder (adjust to taste)
  • 1/4 teaspoon garam masala powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • Fresh coriander leaves for garnish

Instructions

Step 1: Heat oil in a pan or skillet over medium heat. Add mustard seeds and cumin seeds. Let them crackle for a few seconds.

Step 2: Add the finely chopped onion and green chili (if using). Sauté until the onions turn translucent.

Step 3: Add the grated carrot and green peas. Cook for about 2 minutes until they become slightly tender.

Step 4: Now, add the finely chopped tomato along with salt. Cook until the tomatoes become soft and mushy.

Step 5: Add turmeric powder, red chili powder, and garam masala powder. Stir well to combine all the spices with the vegetables.

Step 6: Reduce the heat to low and add the rolled oats to the pan. Mix everything together so that the oats are coated with the spices and vegetables.

Step 7: Pour 2 cups of water into the pan and stir well. Increase the heat to medium and bring the mixture to a boil.

Step 8: Once it comes to a boil, reduce the heat to low and cover the pan with a lid. Allow it to simmer for about 5-7 minutes or until the oats are cooked and have absorbed the water. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.

Step 9: Once the oats are cooked, turn off the heat. Taste and adjust the seasoning if needed.

Step 10: Garnish with freshly chopped coriander leaves.

Storage Tips

To ensure the freshness and flavor of your Masala Oats, store them in a clean, airtight container in the refrigerator.

They can be safely stored for up to 3-4 days. Remember to let the oats cool completely before sealing them to prevent condensation and maintain their texture.

Reheat Tips

When you’re ready to indulge in your pre-prepared Masala Oats, there are a few ways to reheat them to perfection:

  • Stovetop: Transfer the desired portion of Masala Oats to a saucepan and heat over medium-low heat. Add a splash of water or milk to prevent them from drying out. Stir occasionally until heated through and enjoy the aromatic flavors.
  • Microwave: Place a serving of Masala Oats in a microwave-safe bowl. Sprinkle a little water or milk over the top to maintain moisture. Microwave on high in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until heated evenly. Voila! Your piping hot breakfast is ready to be savored.

Freezing Masala Oats

Yes, you can also freeze Masala Oats too! Prepare a larger batch, let it cool completely, and portion it into freezer-safe containers or ziplock bags.

Label them with the date and freeze for up to 2-3 months. Thaw overnight in the refrigerator before reheating using the stovetop or microwave methods mentioned above.

Customization Options

Feel free to customize your reheated Masala Oats with additional toppings and spices.

Sprinkle some extra garam masala, add a dollop of chutney, or even toss in some leftover cooked veggies to give it a fresh twist.
