Dining out as a vegan can sometimes feel like a scavenger hunt – searching menus for suitable options, removing non-vegan ingredients, and double-checking with staff.
BJ’s Brewhouse isn’t exactly known for being vegan-friendly, but there are a handful of dishes that can be made plant-based with some modifications.
From salads and bowls to sides and extras, there are ways to enjoy a meal here if you know what to ask for.
In this guide, we’ll walk through every vegan option at BJ’s Brewhouse, note what isn’t suitable, and share tips to make ordering easier.
We’ll also let you know what we ordered when we visited there in August.
The Best Vegan-Friendly Dishes at BJ’s Brewhouse (Based On Our Research)
While BJ’s Brewhouse doesn’t have an extensive vegan menu, there are several dishes that can be modified to suit a plant-based diet.
Here’s what you can enjoy:
Appetizers
Limited options, but who doesn’t love chips and guac?
Chips with Guacamole and Salsa
A classic and shareable option, these chips are served with house-made guacamole and salsa.
However, it’s important to note that the chips are fried in a shared fryer, which may lead to cross-contamination. If this is a concern, ask your server about preparation methods.
Vegan Salads
Salads are usually a pretty safe bet when eating out as a vegan, but all of the added extras really narrow our options.
House Salad
A simple and reliable option. Ask for no cheese and no croutons, and choose one of the vegan-friendly dressings below.
Fresh Mozzarella & Tomato Salad
Order without mozzarella or parmesan. You’ll get tomato, arugula, red onion, basil, and balsamic glaze.
Strawberry Fields Salad
Skip the chicken and cheese to make this vegan. It comes with mixed greens, strawberries, mandarin oranges, candied pecans, and balsamic vinaigrette.
Vegan Dressings
- Balsamic Vinaigrette
- Italian Dressing
- Red Wine Vinaigrette
- Oil & Vinegar
Soups
Very limited, but their vegan soup is delish – sadly, it’s not available nationwide as it’s been dropped from some menus.
Vegan Lentil with Ancient Grains Soup
This is the only fully vegan dish on the menu as-is. It’s hearty, flavorful, and packed with protein and fiber. You can enjoy it on its own or as part of the Soup & Salad Combo with a vegan-friendly salad.
Entrees
There’s only one entree that we found to be vegan-suitable … but it does need some changes.
BJ’s Brewhouse Bowl
A hearty, customizable option built around quinoa and brown rice. To make it vegan, ask for no feta and no Greek yogurt crema.
The bowl comes with barbacoa cauliflower, black beans, cucumber, pico de gallo, cilantro, pickled red onion, and guacamole.
Tip: black bean preparation can vary by location — some guests have reported butter being used. It’s worth double-checking with your server.
Sides and Extras
You are likely to want to round out your meal or add some variety. BJ’s Brewhouse offers several vegan-friendly sides:
- Steamed Asparagus
- Avocado
- Steamed Broccoli
- Fries (fried in a shared fryer)
- Sweet Potato Fries (fried in a shared fryer)
- Sautéed Green Beans
- Rice Pilaf
- Quinoa and Brown Rice

What’s Not Vegan at BJ’s Brewhouse?
While BJ’s Brewhouse offers some vegan options, there are a few popular menu items that are not suitable for a vegan diet:
- Veggie Burger: Contains dairy and is not vegan-friendly.
- Pizza Crusts: All pizza crusts at BJ’s contain egg and dairy, so pizza is off the table for vegans.
What We Ordered As A Vegan Family At BJ Brewhouse
We headed to BJ Brewhouse to sample the menu in August.
We shared a serving of chips with guacamole and salsa to start, and it was pretty delicious – the kids really enjoyed it.
We were really disappointed to see that the pasta wasn’t an option anymore -the kids used to really enjoy it.
Instead, they both had soup and sides – very limited, but it filled a gap.
I ordered the strawberry fields salad and oh my god it was SO good!!
Mr. had the powerbowl (with one eye on my salad), but he has been raving about it since!
We got some beans, sweet potato fries, and steamed broccoli to share, and it was all well-cooked and well-seasoned.
If you’re heading to BJ’s soon, you can check out the full menu here.
And their latest allergen guidelines can be found here – take a look before you go so you’re not caught out.
Final Thoughts

Remember to communicate your dietary needs clearly to the staff and inquire about cross-contamination if it’s a concern. With a little preparation, BJ’s Brewhouse can be a great spot for a vegan-friendly meal.
Disclaimer: We cross-checked this guide with BJ’s official allergen information in August 2025. While we do our best to keep everything current, menus and ingredients can change quickly. Think of this as a starting point, and always confirm with your server. If you spot updates before we do, we’d love to hear from you so we can keep this guide useful for the whole vegan community.
